Common Reasons Clients Contact Me
Anxious Teens: Adolescence is a challenging time. When anxiety enters the picture, it can often derail emotional balance and negatively impact day to day functioning. I can help.
Trauma: Big T or little T, trauma impacts us in destructive ways. With EMDR therapy, clients report significant results in a shorter amount of time. If you've suffered quietly on your own for too long, now's the time.
Relationship Issues: I work with individuals and couples who are struggling with emotional regulation, communication, and confidence. Everyone is looking for connection. They just lack the tools.
Everyone Else: Depression, life changes, divorce and more. I help adolescents and adults improve their lives by examining their patterns that are keeping them stuck. You can change how you feel.
There are no absolute truths, only our perceptions, emotions and judgements which can often cloud our experiences, meaning life can become MESSY. However, that is a good thing! It forces us to examine our patterns and engage in a decidedly purposeful endeavor - to create a life with more love and happiness and to decrease those feelings that keep us in a state of depression, anxiety and angst. I use warmth, compassion and keen insight to build trust with my clients when it is needed most.
Young people often struggle to recognize, verbalize, and develop personal tools to minimize their sense of emotional isolation. Often that feeling of isolation is powerful and in therapy we use it to propel us through the highs and lows of emotional healing. Adolescents can recognize authenticity and a strength of mine is to work with those resistant to therapy and to develop a meaningful relationship built on mutual respect. By providing a safe and nurturing environment, complete with a emotional support dog, I offer an open and honest therapeutic partnership to uncover barriers to emotional regulation and positive relationships.
Couples therapy is an effective tool to change communication patterns, increase trust and intimacy, and process negative beliefs about ourselves, our partners, and our relationships. Often, our past is also our present and we continue to fall into old patterns of viewing our world around us. We seek relationships and experiences that validate our subconscious beliefs about ourselves. Fears of rejection or vulnerability are like personal prisons, keeping us from moving forward.
I also specialize in working with new parents and couples who have developmentally delayed and/or children and adults with autism. Parents often may be unaware or are so preoccupied meeting the needs of their own children, they can undervalue the stress, pain and anxiety that is affecting them and their marriages. Because these stressors also affect the entire family, I also offer specialized therapy for siblings.
